Ο Β. Προφυλλίδης είναι Καθηγητής στο ΔΠΘ, όπου διδάσκει από το 1990. Είναι Πολιτικός Μηχανικός ΑΠΘ, Συγκοινωνιολόγος (DEA) και Διδάκτορας του Πολυτεχνείου των Παρισίων (Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées) καθώς και Πτυχιούχος της Νομικής Σχολής ΑΠΘ.
